My favorite place to stop coming home from the Casino in Rohnert Park. Best chorizo ever. I stopped by today 6/25/2024 and they are still closed. Don't think they will reopen, despite what it says on the sign! BUMMER!

Super burrito with carne asada! This burrito was juicy and flavorful! I did ask for black beans but it came with pinto (it's okay). It was super thick and filling so I was only able to eat 1/2. I loved that it came with chips, not all places do that anymore. The red sauce was yummy and slightly spicy (can be spicier haha). Overall very good meal and I will be eating leftovers tomorrow. The workers were fast and nice! I heard other proteins were great as well!

Yes it's on the dive side of the 101 freeway looming overhead. There's no real signage. Parking is iffy around back. The clientele is lively and diverse and there are no margaritas. They're all there for the fantastic food - and lots of it. The service is great. You order at the counter, grab your drink and get a number. Don't mind the racket. They will hustle your meal to your table in a few minutes. You'll be happy. And once again, when you return to the East Coast, you'll refresh your disdain for the sorry plate there that passes for my chili relleno or enchiladas here.

Sign me up coach. I'm all in on this tasty little Mexican eatery parked below the highway in the heart of San Rafael. I was craving a burrito on a Saturday afternoon and so my adventure began. A quick search on Yelp turned me on to Taqueria San Jose. It's a little hard to find and there is limited street parking so have gps and use the parking spaces under the highway and along the creek. It's not the best lot and some potholes are more like craters but I digress. Drive slowly. Back to the food. At first glance from the street I thought it was smaller but upon entering I was greeted by delicious aromas and a bustling lunch time crowd that stretched back into the building. A large screen tv at one end with plenty of seating throughout. After I placed my order I got a number and found an open table. In short order my spot was wiped down and cleaned by a server and then my food quickly arrived. It was the first bite that told me I had found my new go to spot. Great ratios of meat and beans and rice and it all tasted fresh. The two salsas (red and green) that came with the chips were on point and the green was particularly yummy. The price, the food and the folks who run this place makes it my new favorite thing and I can't wait to go back to see what other delights I can find.

We come here whenever we golf Peaock Gap. All the food is hearty and prepared quickly. We ordered A chili verde super burrito. They come by with chips with green and red salsa. Get the green as it is milder. The super burrito is enough to Share. Ask for more green sauce and a knife to cut the burrito in half. Others got 2 meat tacos at $3 per taco. Not a bad deal. Staff is very friendly. Don't charge your meal as there is an up charge. Pay in cash. Ask for extra green sauce.

Wonderful no frills spot for Mexican food. The food is fantastic and the prices are super reasonable. The burritos are massive and if you have kids, load up on tacos for $3 each. Dine in and they give you a free small basket of chips and dip to start. Bring cash because they do charge an extra fee for all credit card transitions. Service is friendly. Park in the lot under the overpass next door.

Wow, my second time here and I enjoyed my meal even more this time! I was going to upgrade my review and realized I must not have pushed submit on my first one. Shame on me. Tucktaway underneath the freeway here just off the outskirts of downtown San Rafael is one of the great authentic finds in the bay area. There's always seems to be 3/4 full with a little bit of line, but don't worry, everything moves quickly. They have a group of well trained cooks, pumping out some of the best, Mexican food around. From the natural quesadilla to true "crispy tacos", Al pastor to carnitas etc... fantastic. Highly recommended.
